Last week was our first full week living in and working from Mexico City, and while it definitely feels like we’re embracing life to the fullest here, my energy tank is also feeling a little empty!
We’re here for two months for a few different reasons, namely that we are both eager to reach fluency in Spanish (early reports indicate this is very likely for Dan but….not so much for me) and to experiment with living in another country. Dan has some clients that he’s working with currently who have offices in Mexico City and at the moment I can work remotely from anywhere in post production. I already have a few local friends here and we’re hoping to make more. Plus, I just freaking love this city. I really do.
We spent this week getting settled and into a routine, starting our bi-weekly Spanish classes and testing the limit of our apartments’ wifi with our jobs. We’ve gone out to explore the city most mornings ahead of work, slowly mapping our ‘hood (Roma) and getting our bearings. I managed to sneak in a walk-in lunch at Contramar (!!!) with my friend Aimee, who was in town, and then we ended up reconnecting a few days later for dinner and some salsa dancing (my salsa dancing is even worse than my Spanish, but I’m looking to change that!). Two other friends arrived, and together we went to a fútbol game then ate more glorious food. We ended the week with a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the pyramids of Teotihuacán, our most awe-filled hour in Mexico yet.
There’s so much color, delicious art, beautiful food, kaleidoscopic history, glorious life in this massive city. It feels like we’ve seen so much already, but I know that it will take a lot longer than 2 months to even scratch the surface of this place. I can’t wait to put myself in the way of beauty even more here and keep experiencing life in the present. I just maybe need a nap first.
Have a great week fam!
