The city had that magical dusty-but-vivid color I remember loving, the food was exceptional, and the mezcal was as fresh and smokey as you’d imagine it would be from the source. Things were decorated for Easter weekend so purple and white were everywhere (everyone knows those are Jesus’ favorite colors). Overall, the vibes were great, 10/10. The food we loved: * Fonda Rosita - this stall in the Mercado de la Merced had the BEST Chilaquiles in Mexico (yeah I said it) @fondarositaoax * Sirilio Cocina Folk - amazing fresh seafood, increíble oysters. * Criollo - high end but simple candlelit dinner with Oaxacan favorites and unique-as-hell cocktails @criollo_oax * Best cocktails were at Sabina Sabe - holy moly, just ask the bartender what his favorite one is and drink it, trust me. @sabinasabeoaxaca * Best mezcal tasting at La Mezcalerita #oaxaca #mexico #mezcal

Scenes from our first month living (temporarily) i Scenes from our first month living (temporarily) in CDMX ❤️🇲🇽 We love our morning walks around the city before work and our weekend wanders. Our Spanish is improving daily thanks to some classes with a tutor, but Dan’s Instagram boyfriend skills are not. The visits from friends have been spectacular (they’ll get their own post!) The cactus attended it’s first international music festival.🌵 The food is awesome, both street food and the fancy shit. 🌮 The drinks are exceptional. 🍹 The football fans are rowdy. ⚽️ Amazing art is everywhere. The sunsets are magical. 🌅 This city has changed a lot since I first fell for it with it 9 years ago, but it’s still got so much to love about it! 🥰 cc: @dpegro
Today I say goodbye to 1242 N Commonwealth. I’m Today I say goodbye to 1242 N Commonwealth. I’m both wildly sad but also filled with an uncontainable excitement to start this next love-filled chapter of my life. I moved into this house in February last year as the saddest version of me I’d ever known. My plans for the future were a fiery wreckage. I spent days shuffling aimlessly around the kitchen, unsure of what I was supposed to be doing with what little energy I had. I got the worst phone call of my life sitting in my office chair. I cried many many nights alone in the bedroom, feeling like the relentless heaviness on my chest would never let up. I was unmoored, suffering from what felt like endless loss, filled with fear that I may never be the person I knew ever again. And that was true. But now I’ve learned that is a good thing. Because it was also in this house that I rebuilt my life, brick by brick, into one that more closely reflects the person I am on the inside. I picked out furniture that made me smile. I decorated with photos of my accomplishments. I celebrated holidays with loved ones. I colored with my niece and god-daughter on the porch. I started over in a new job. I read inspiring books in the bathtub. I wrote down things I wanted to let go of and burned them in an old fire pit I got at an estate sale. I hate this phrasing but it’s accurate - here, I fell in love with myself again. And then I fell in love with an incredible human who lights up my days with respect, kindness, energy and goofy singing. Thank you, green house. The new chapter begins in Highland Park (yeah, I’m back MFers) - and I couldn’t be happier 😍 @dpegro

After my drunken late night in Copenhagen, I manag After my drunken late night in Copenhagen, I managed to pull my hungover ass out of bed and onto a rental bike, upon which I wobbled all over this colorful, clean and gorgeous city. Nothing like a tourist with wild hair and a goofy smile slowing down the locals in the bike lanes! I climbed to the top of @theroundtower, nearly fell into the Stromma Canal, noshed on some mussels & frites at @broensgadekoekken and even said hi to the famous mermaid, along with many other tourists. I recently heard @elizabeth_gilbert_writer talk about how important it is to fiercely defend your solitude, especially if that’s how you recharge. That 24 hours in Copenhagen made me remember how essential it is to carve out time for myself and go on solo adventures. After Italy, I spent my last 24 hours in Europe ex After Italy, I spent my last 24 hours in Europe exploring a new place - Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰 This was the first time I’d been solo for my entire trip, and I was thrilled - my inner introvert-demon was getting antsy during all the group travel. I checked into my hostel (@steel_house_copenhagen - a top-notch spot that cost more than a suite in SE Asia, but I was ready to meet travelers, and I love hostel vibes, even in my late 30s!) and then headed out for dinner….. ….for one of the most LUXURIOUS meals of my life at @restaurantkadeau. Over ten courses (I lost count, blame the excellent wine pairing!), lots of Danish-style dishes, and a fun-loving staff that blew my mind….think Richie, The Bear season 2 🎩 Super pricey but once-in-a-lifetime - it was the most I’ve ever spoiled myself on a solo meal. I love that I’m the person who sleeps at a hostel and eats 2 Michelin-star meals the same night. After dinner, I watched the sunset (at 10:30 pm!) and treated myself to more INSANE gourmet cocktails at @rubycph. Then I took my drunk ass back to my hostel, loudly clamored into my top bunk, and most likely REALLY pissed off the much younger backpackers who were already asleep. Every time I go to Rome, I get this overwhelming f Every time I go to Rome, I get this overwhelming feeling I’m meant to live there. Like it’s my home, somehow. Being able to share it with so many close friends for such a celebratory occasion - even the strange insomnia I experienced that week couldn’t keep me down for too long. June was my 5th time in the city, but it was the first time I stayed in the Monteverde neighborhood, just above Trastevere (my favorite area of the city). It was lush and quiet, full of locals living their lives. Because I couldn’t sleep well, I did many solo walks in the area at odd hours. I discovered some hidden public gardens with ruins partially covered in overgrowth. Ancient walls with flora emerging from the cracks. A beautiful city overlook, empty at sunrise except for the guy at the cart who sold me an espresso and a pastry that melted on my tongue, while I listened to the church bells ringing from the dozens of towers dotting the horizon. #visititaly #roma #rome #visitrome #vivaitalia #vivaroma #monteverederoma #travelgram #traveleurope

What a treat to spend time with people I love and have so much history with, in the world’s most layered and beautiful historical city. Don’t get me wrong, it was crowded - absolutely, the rumors are true - but we still managed to laugh a lot, drink too much wine, seek out some incredibly memorable food, and nearly get arrested for falling into the Trevi Fountain.
